Director of Engineering and Quality

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance to the organization on emerging technologies.
- Participate in the identification and selection of investments in alignment with strategic goals.
- Hire, train, and mentor engineers and supporting staff.
- Use policy deployment to develop and track short and long-term goals.
- Capture management of opportunities to include proposals, plans and quotes.
- Prepare budgets, bids, and cost estimates.
- Working leader guiding design engineers in the research and development of products, processes, fixtures/tooling for machining and assembly.
- Use the tools of the Toyota Production System to design and develop products and processes.
- Provide guidance in the manufacture of high tolerance, complex gears and gear heads.
- Use customer specifications to develop solutions for HMI cockpit devices to include NVIS lighting requirements and various display technologies.
- Work within the requirements of the Department of Defense including cyber security to ensure compliance with all customer documentation and manufacturing flow downs.
- Draft proposals and reports for clients.
- Improve manufacturing processes and advance scientific research.
- Work closely with Purchasing in the selection and development of suppliers.
- Develop quality assurance plans by identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures.
- Maintain and improve product quality by eliminating variation. Use data driven, scientific methods to determine root causes and develop and implement counter-measures and improve processes.
- Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
- Act as a Kata methodologies coach for process improvements.

Education/Experience Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree and six years related experience, including supervision.
Level of Supervision
- This position is responsible for overseeing the activities of union production QA Auditors as well as assisting with supervision of other areas as needed.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for short periods of time.
- This position must be able to write and speak clearly.
- Vision requirements include close vision and color vision with ability to adjust focus. Must meet vision requirements per Bowmar LLC Procedure QP-005.
- Occasional lifting (maximum 30 lbs.)
- Will be exposed to general office and machine shop working conditions. The typical work environment has low noise and moderate temperature levels.
- Some travel (<10%) required to visit suppliers and customers and for required educational activities.
